and Technology
IKI was among the pioneers of CAPI and ACASI methodologies in Malawi and has extensive experience using smartphones, tablets, and other electronic devices across multiple software platforms. The organization operates a dedicated data management facility in Zomba with secure rooms for data entry and storage. IKI’s data managers are skilled in programming data entry templates using different applications like SurveyCTO, CSPro, Microsoft Access, and Excel, and in implementing rigorous quality assurance procedures, including double data entry and verification. The team delivers clean, well-documented datasets in multiple statistical formats, including Stata, SPSS, SAS, and Excel. IKI has extensive experience using SurveyCTO and other electronic data collection platforms such as Kobo Toolbox, Tangerine, and REDCap. The organization owns and operates its own fully paid SurveyCTO server, ensuring data security, reliability, and timely data delivery to clients. Below are selected examples of data collection projects implemented by IKI across diverse disciplines, underscoring our extensive experience with a wide range of data collection methodologies and study complexities.
Expertise
IKI has extensive experience implementing a broad range of qualitative research methodologies, including Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), Key Informant Interviews (KIIs), and In-Depth Interviews (IDIs). The organization has collaborated with academic institutions such as the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Michigan to develop innovative qualitative methods, including a unique hearsay ethnography approach that captures naturally occurring community conversations without direct researcher intrusion. IKI has also undertaken complex historical and archival research projects, working with records dating back to the 1890s. These projects involved digitizing, coding, and analyzing archival economic and political data, demonstrating IKI’s advanced technical capacity in data collection, digitization, and management. The organization maintains a pool of qualified transcribers and translators who convert digital audio recordings into high-quality written transcripts.
